A digital Protractor is a type of protractor which measures angle automatically without user having to read it from the scale. These protractors have a digital display which shows the angle on the screen.
Like precision squares, these protractors are also important tools in the carpentry and manufacturing fields that need measure of angles. These protractors are also referred to as digital angle gauges or digital inclinometers that look like bevel protractor though other models also exist.
The method of using the protractor may differ from device to device. The basic steps for using the digital protractor in horizontal measurement mode are
1.Setting up the protractor in horizontal mode: The protractor should be set to horizontal measurement mode which can be confirmed by seeing the letters ’ABS’ on the screen.
2.Place the protractor on the angled surface; the display screen will display the angle. The protractor takes the horizontal surface (level surface) as its base.
The other mode available in a digital protractor is relative measurement mode. Steps for using the protractor are
1.Place the digital thermometer on the surface from which you want to measure.
2.Press the ‘zero’ button to reset display to zero degrees on the device.
3.Next place the tool on the surface you wish to measure. The measurement displayed will be the angle between the initial surface from step 1 and second surface.
This handy tool is used to measure angles, which means one end of the surface should be attached to each other. Proper use of such devices would yield accurate results which traditional protractors cannot.
