Calibrating a measuring instrument can never be neglected. This activity is very important for almost every industry that deals with various instruments. Calibration of various devices like the engineer squares is done to compare the instrument against a more accurate and traceable reference standard.

- Increase of instrument life: Over time, the accuracy of a device goes down. Few of the instruments degrade more quickly. The working conditions of the devices also affect the level of degradation.
- Calibration helps in setting the instrument back to the original standard so that the user can continue using them for a longer time. If the device is results are accurate and reliable, the owner need not spend huge money to own new equipment.
